That kind of aural feedback goes a long way in a rhythm game. The biggest advantage of the Guitar Hero controller, however, is the clicking strum bar. A guitar has six strings, so why not use six buttons to simulate one? Having two rows means you can use the same three fingers for all six of them, rather than slide your hand up and down the neck constantly. As before, the strum bar has an audible, tactile "click" that helps you know when you've hit a note properly.Īlthough it takes some time to get used to the six-button design, it actually makes a lot more sense than the five-button configuration. The top row is white, the bottom is black, and you play notes by matching both color and position. Rather than five colored buttons, you get two rows of three buttons apiece. Although a considerable stepdown from RB3 (and RB2, which I still think was its peak game) It’s still a fantastic game and a ton of fun.The Guitar Hero controller, on the other hand, takes considerable departures from its predecessors. Now that they’re worth $700+ used, I’m either happy that I have it for myself, or will be happy to pay off my child’s college tuition and my second mortgage once they’re worth a billion dollars in the year 2030 when I finally get around to using it.Īlso, we play RB4 regularly with the extended family and my younger nephews have a great time with it.

Lucked out and have both an unopened unused Xbox 360 Midi adapter and an unopened unused PDP wired legacy adapter that I can use with my Roland TD6 drumkit once I have a larger space.īought it from PDP directly and felt sinful at the time spending 33 dollars ($29.97 plus shipping) to buy myself something that I wasn’t sure I was going to use. Have a Legacy Wireless adapter plugged in, that I’ll probably never unplug or will hot glue the cable to the port so it doesn’t snap off. Have a RB 2 guitar and drumset (plus a wired RB2 bass that sits unused in storage if I ever want to play Beatles RB on the old 360) Transferred all the DLC from previous games, have a RB4 jaguar from when those were going for a fire sale at Gamestop.

Happy to have a good, working RB4 set up at my home with the Xbox One S.
